Verified facts

Its feedback, published on 15 October, says some practices may not meet Consumer Duty requirements. The concerns also extend to offsetting buy and sell positions in the same underlying asset.

The FCA says it will monitor firms and follow up where necessary. This feedback is not a finding that every provider has breached its obligations.

Apolifina analysis

A displayed dealing spread is not necessarily the complete cost of a leveraged position. Holding time can matter, so price comparisons need to reflect the way an account would actually be used.

This is also distinct from choosing a platform for ordinary share or fund ownership. The product's structure, borrowing exposure and ongoing charges need to be understood before the provider's headline pricing can be meaningfully compared. This report does not endorse CFD trading or any broker.

Uncertainty and risk

No universal new fee cap, refund entitlement or enforcement outcome is announced here. CFDs are complex, leveraged and high risk. Losses and charges can be substantial. This is general reporting, not a recommendation to trade or a judgement about an unnamed firm's compliance.
