Verified facts

Production rose 0.8%, while services recorded no growth and construction fell 0.2%. The monthly figures therefore describe an uneven expansion rather than improvement across every part of the economy.

The rolling three-month measure was stronger: output increased 0.7% in the three months to August compared with the previous three months. That is a different comparison from the monthly figure, not an alternative estimate of August alone.

Apolifina analysis

For investors assessing UK-facing companies, the sector split is more useful than treating the headline as a verdict on every business. A growing economy can still contain weak building demand and flat service activity. Neither measure determines the Bank of England's next interest-rate decision on its own.
